Are You Prepared for Them?

 

As a business owner you expect things to happen.  Sometimes they are good things and sometimes not so good.  One thing you hope doesn’t happen but expect anyway is the once-in-a-while emergency. These are the kind of things you hear about and may have had in the past like a tree on the roof, or a car rolling into your lighted sign out front, or maybe even a burglary.  You probably have some kind of informal plan for dealing with these things, like the home number for a contractor you could call or maybe you even have a card handy for your insurance agent or the sign company.  But do you have a plan for that really BIG problem that might happen – like when the tornado rips off your whole roof, or the water main bursts and floods out your entire first floor? 

 

You need a little more preparation to be ready for these and some other even more significant catastrophic incidents.  You absolutely MUST to be ready to deal with the kind of calamity that could actually put you out of business! I have a pamphlet prepared with some great ideas to help you be prepared. I have done the research and organized the details for you in a step by step guide. When you order one of these guides, don’t keep it to yourself.  Share it with your managers and ask them to read it over and give you some feedback. Get their input on how best to implement this preparation and plan. Figure out how to modify these ideas to fit your operation.  Use the ideas that apply directly and modify the others to make them fit your organization.  

 

The point is to think through these steps, figure out how they apply to you and customize your own plan. The exercise of going through these steps one at a time will help you see where you have the most exposure to any type of loss.  These are the critical bottlenecks that every organization has. This is where you spend your time planning how to avoid and manage the risks to the areas that can put you out of business! In other words, this is SURVIVAL PLANNING!
